Tazewell, VA-  Tazewell County Career and Technical Center (TCCTC) student Lillian Wimmer was elected to the 2026–2027 SkillsUSA State Officer team, becoming the first student from TCCTC in over 20 years to achieve this honor.

To earn the honor of serving as a SkillsUSA State Officer, Wimmer submitted a candidate application which included her resume as well as  recommendations from her criminal justice instructor, Corporal Matthew Stiltner, and TCCTC Principal Lee Salyers, Jr. Next, Wimmer went through a mult-step selection process which took place in Virginia Beach, Virginia at the SkillsUSA Virginia State Leadership and Skills Conference. During the process, she was evaluated by a panel of judges on her leadership ability, communication skills, and knowledge of SkillsUSA. Then Wimmer gave a short speech to the voting delegates at the conference and was selected as one of a select few to serve the state of Virginia next year as a member of the SkillsUSA Virginia State Officer Team.

Upon learning that she was chosen as a state officer Wimmer said, “I was really shocked, but I am also very honored to have this opportunity.“ Wimmer will now get to travel throughout the state, attending SkillsUSA conferences, trainings, meetings, and events in places such as Alexandria, Virginia, Doswell, Virginia, and Richmond Virginia. In addition, she will also attend the 2027 State Leadership and Skills Conference.

“Lillian is a dependable and articulate student who reflects the core values of SkillsUSA—leadership, responsibility, and service,” said Tazewell County Career and Technical Center Principal Lee Salyers, Jr. “Her ability to communicate effectively and encourage others makes her an excellent choice for the SkillsUSA State Officer Team.”

Wimmer is a junior in the criminal justice program at Tazewell County Career and Technical Center. She attends Graham High School. Upon graduation, Wimmer plans to attend college at Radford University to obtain her bachelor's degree in biology with a minor in forensic science. After that, her goal is to work to obtain a doctorate degree in forensic science at Virginia Commonwealth University.
